Barbados Restaurant Reopens After Temporary Closure Prompted by Workers Union Industrial Action

Fried Chicken branch reopens after BWU-led industrial action. AC unit malfunction led to temporary closure. BWU expresses discontent over environmental impact on staff. AC units in kitchen area malfunctioned for two weeks.
Fried Chicken reopened yesterday, after industrial action called by the Barbados Workers Union (BWU) closed the operation temporarily on Friday. Customers were forced to wait until after 1 p.m. for the operation to open its doors yesterday.
The branch was closed on Friday due to malfunctioning air-condition (AC) units.
The BWU is far from happy with what occurred, noting it resulted in several environmental issues affecting a dozen line staff in the restaurant’s kitchen.
Deputy director of industrial relations at the union, Kamisha Benjamin, said the AC units in the back of the house (kitchen, prep area and drive-through) were not working for two weeks. (BA)
