JetBlue to increase flights from Boston to Barbados for winter season, offering three weekly services. Expansion reflects commitment to Barbados tourism growth and supports Diaspora travel.
US-based carrier JetBlue is set to increase its flights to Barbados from Boston for the upcoming winter season, offering three weekly services on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
The airline will continue to deploy its premium Mint service on Saturday flights throughout the season.
Minister of Tourism and International Transport Ian Gooding-Edghill welcomed the expansion, stating it “reflects the carrier’s commitment to Barbados” and aligns with his vision of continued growth of the tourism sector.
“We are pleased to welcome JetBlue’s expansion from Boston Logan Airport – with three-weekly flights slated to commence towards the end of October 2024,” said Gooding- Edghill. “This development dovetails with our desire to grow the US market and underscores their confidence and commitment to Barbados. JetBlue remains a trusted partner and this has been a strategic and deliberate effort to ensure sustainable growth for Barbados – both in arrivals and earnings.”
Andrea Franklin, chief executive officer of the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc., emphasised that the increased capacity would create more opportunities for business out of New England, a region receiving growing attention from both BTMI and JetBlue. For generations, Boston has also been home to a significant Barbadian-American community.
“Barbados continues to be in demand and our tourism offerings continue to appeal to visitors to our shores,” Franklin said. “These additional flights will support our growth during the peak winter season and provide ease of access for both core leisure passengers and members of our Diaspora – many of whom have already signalled their interest in returning for We Gatherin’ 2025.”
JetBlue’s network strategy has recently focused on enhancing international markets, with current service to over 100 destinations.
The carrier’s president, Marty St George, said: “We are incredibly proud of our strong roots in Boston and New England, a place that has always embraced our vision for low fares and superior travel experiences. Our commitment to Boston and our loyal customers across New England is unwavering as we continue to innovate and enhance our product. With each new development, each new route, we aim to deliver even greater comfort and convenience, ensuring that our customers’ choice is easy, and they always receive the best that JetBlue has to offer.”
