Sagicor renews partnership with Optimist Club of Barbados Central for Adopt-A-Family program. Monthly stipends and support provided to at-risk families to improve circumstances. Total of 21 families aided in 2022-2023.
Insurance giant Sagicor has renewed its commitment to the Optimist Club of Barbados Central’s Adopt-A-Family programme for a third consecutive year.
The programme, which was started in 2022, provides a monthly stipend and support to several at risk families to help them overcome their vulnerabilities.
As a result of the existing partnership, a total of 21 families received assistance between 2022 and 2023. This year, a further 10 families consisting of 45 individuals are set to benefit.
Sagicor’s Manager of Communications, Corporate Social Responsibility and Events Randy Howard, said the renewal of the partnership is in keeping with one of the group’s social responsibility pillars of community and youth.
“As a company, we aim to improve the quality-of-life persons have, through focused donations, projects, and initiatives. Through the Adopt-A-Family Programme, several deserving families will get the assistance they need to better their circumstances. The club also has the benefit of hosting meetings monthly in our spacious and comfortable Client Experience Centre,” he said.
A very appreciative President of the Optimist Club of Barbados Central, Ann Wallace-Elcock thanked Sagicor for its renewed commitment to the programme this year. She pointed out that while the financial support was important, the ability to host those meetings was crucial.
Wallace-Elcock said: “On a monthly basis in conjunction with PAREDOS, we conduct family education sessions, addressing matters like how best to spend your money, manage your health, or anything that contributes to making these individuals and their families’ lives better. From all the feedback we have had from the first two years, this monthly conversation is very much needed and appreciated. You find out that it is not so much about the money, but it is about the support you give these families to manage their daily lives.”
Sagicor Team members have also been involved in the programme by contributing to donation drives over the years. The company set up barrels on several occasions at its two locations in Collymore Rock and Wildey in St Michael, in addition to the new Sagicor Bank office in Worthing, Christ Church, inviting team members to donate non-perishable food, toiletries, toys, baby products, and games, suitable for kids.
