Rise Barbados media launch at Kensington Oval unveils star-studded lineup for upcoming soca show. Event aims for world-class production, supports hurricane relief efforts, and expands brand internationally.
Rise Barbados hosted their media launch on Wednesday evening in the President’s Suite of the 3W’s Stand at Kensington Oval. The soca show, which takes place in three weeks, promises to be a world-class production. The lineup features a star-studded cast, with each act considered to a headliner. The performers are KES the Band, Patrice Roberts with the A-Team Band, Pumpa, and Ravi B for the chutney music lovers. Also returning will be Skinny Fabulous and Lil Rick.
Striving for an epic production where patrons get value for their money, Orlando Newton of Nouvelle Vie Entertainment explained, “What we try to do every year is not just to choose who is the best artist in the Caribbean, as most would like to believe, but also people that are compatible in working together.”
Considering the significant impact that Hurricane Beryl has had on the region, the group also staged a fundraiser at the nearby Cricket Legends, deciding to use proceeds collected at the gate to assist in relief efforts.
Newton informed the specially invited guests that their brand extends beyond Barbados. He shared, “We have also spread our wings over to Saint Lucia, Dominica, St Vincent and is also co-executive producer of one of the largest food festivals in Canada.”
Senator Chad Blackman, Minister in the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Investment in his remarks commended the longevity of the brand. He acknowledged, “In this industry, like many other industries, sometimes things start, they are successful for one or two years, but you have now reached half a decade in your legacy.”
Speaking to the importance of the cultural economy, he said, “Culture is at the heart of Barbados, you cannot have Barbados without culture.” He added, “In my view, when you are talking about the diversification of our economy, the cultural economy plays a critical role, and therefore this evening, this launch in my view is a testament also to where the country is going.”
He encouraged, “We must continue to make Barbados the epicenter on earth that can facilitate large events, small events, cultural events, sporting events of all kinds and conferences.”
Minister Blackman noted, “We are located in a strategic part of the world. You have accessibility to airlift, you have a stable economy, you have beautiful beaches. We are the country that invented rum, we are the country of Rihanna, and therefore how we now package all of these things is going to be critical.”
He continued, “When I look at the lineup that you have, it really speaks as a testament to what you are doing. To be able to not only have the best of Barbadian artistes, but the best from around the Caribbean, speaks time and time again to your commitment to excellence.”
Joining their list of sponsors is the South Point Beach Hotel. Standard Distribution Barbados, part of the ANSA McAL Group of Companies, is on board for the second year.
Among the attractions will be the LIVVIP section which has limited tickets available. In addition to reserved parking patrons have been promised the crème de la crème. (STT)
