Barbados Salvation Army's Christmas Kettle Appeal Falls Behind Amidst Economic Challenges, Says Divisional Commander Major Robert Pyle

The Barbados Salvation Army's Christmas kettle appeal is currently behind last year's contributions, possibly due to the difficult economy. The overall goal for this year has increased to $850,000. Divisional Commander Major Robert Pyle remains optimistic.
The Barbados Salvation Army is behind in its Christmas kettle appeal and Divisional Commander Major Robert Pyle is concerned.
On Friday during the annual Massy Christmas luncheon, Pyle said they had received less contributions compared to the same period last year recognising the overall goal was higher.
“So far, we have raised about $390 000, slightly less than the same period last year. What we are finding out is that in some locations the giving is slightly down and I think that is because of the economy. Things are very difficult for a lot of people financially-wise and that is reflected in their giving,” he said.
The goal for this year’s appeal is $850 000, $100 000 more than last year. Pyle said the need was greater hence the increase. Despite being a bit behind however, he remained hopeful. (CA)
