President of BUT Rudy Lovell stresses urgent Government intervention needed following stabbing incident involving two Parkinson Memorial Secondary School students. Investigation ongoing, one in serious but stable condition at QEH.
Following a serious stabbing incident involving two students of Parkinson Memorial Secondary School yesterday, president of the Barbados Union of Teachers (BUT) Rudy Lovell has warned the Government that decisive intervention in the myriad problems at schools is urgently required.
In a release, the Ministry of Education said in conjunction with principal Captain Adrian Ward, it was investigating an incident that resulted in the stabbing of two boys at separate locations yesterday.
It said one received superficial injuries to his shoulder and the tip of the third finger, and was taken to the Edgar Cochrane Polyclinic, while the other received an injury to the abdomen and was transported to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH).
“He is in serious but stable condition [at the QEH]. The other students involved in the incident have since been interrogated and suspended. The ministry sent one of their officers to the school to assist with information gathering as police investigations continue into the matter. We will continue working with the Barbados Police Service and school officials and update the public accordingly,” the ministry stated. (AH)
