National Council on Substance Abuse Urges Reporting of Synthetic Drug Usage in Barbados

The National Council on Substance Abuse (NCSA) urges Barbadians to report suspected synthetic drug usage, highlighting the deadly consequences. Testing of suspicious substances can help inform the public about new psychoactive substances.
The National Council on Substance Abuse (NCSA) is still concerned about the use of synthetic drugs in the country and is appealing to Barbadians to report any suspected usage which could have deadly consequences.
Deputy manager Troy Wickham made that plea yesterday when the NCSA embarked on a community drive-thru as part of Drug Awareness Month activities.
“Last year, we issued two alerts, one which focused on the usage of ecstasy/MDMA and synthetic cannabinoids. We encourage the public to feel free at any time to submit any suspicious substances for testing so that we can keep the public informed about new psychoactive substances entering the market,” he said at the Ministry of Home Affairs’ Wildey, St Michael headquarters.
Wickham referenced a video circulating on social media last year which featured several young men who appeared to be paralysed and urinating on themselves after taking a substance.
He said their investigations revealed that the substances believed to be responsible for their behaviour also led to some deaths. (TSG)
