Barbados Minister Highlights Forgiveness and Redemption in National Peace Programme
May 27, 2024
Barbados' Minister of State highlights the lack of forgiveness in the Christian society. The Elevate the Peace initiative aims to offer redemption opportunities through vocational training for youth.
Although Barbados boasts of being a Christian society, it is not very forgiving, says Minister of State in the Office of the Attorney General with responsibility for Crime Prevention, Corey Lane.
And one of the reasons why they added the Elevate the Peace element to the National Peace Programme, was to give people a chance to turn their lives around.
He was speaking yesterday at Liquido Bar, Water Street, Christ Church, where 12 young people are being taught the rudiments of bar tending. Another 12 are learning about barbering at Vanity Lounge, in Hill Road, Bank Hall and Lane said to date, all of the courses were oversubscribed.
“A lot of people are very judgmental, they look down on people and they think we are casting our pearls among the swine, but we are really casting our pearls among the future of our country, people that I believe in. I believe in grace, I believe in forgiveness and that is why this programme will seek to work with all and sundry, regardless of what the detractors are saying.” (SAT)
