Antigua and Barbuda police arrest and charge a 26-year-old man for the homicide of Member of Parliament Asot Michael. Commissioner of Police acknowledges public cooperation and supports the Michael family.
Police in Antigua and Barbuda have arrested and charged a 26-year-old man with homicide of Member of Parliament, Asot Michael.
Alexta Francis, a Golden Grove resident, was taken into custody by police late Friday evening for questioning in connection with the ongoing investigation, Antigua Breaking News reported on Saturday.
Commissioner of Police, Atlee Rodney has thanked the public for their patience and cooperation throughout the investigation. He also continues to offer support to the Michael family on their tragic loss, the report continues.
The commissioner is further commending his officers for their diligence and professionalism in handling the matter.
Francis is expected in court on Monday.
Michael was found dead at his home early on Tuesday with a stab wound to his chest and other injuries, police said.
Michael previously served as tourism, economic development and energy minister under Prime Minister Gaston Browne. He left the ruling Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party but reclaimed his seat as an Independent PM in the last election.
