Wesley Hall Junior School Closure Extended Due to Ongoing Repairs, Ministry Provides Update
July 5, 2024
Wesley Hall Junior School to remain closed for repairs. Ministry of Education working on improvements due to concerns over mould, pests, and facilities. Updates on reopening to follow.
Sections of the Wesley Hall Junior School are still undergoing repairs, and the school will therefore remain closed on Friday, the Ministry of Education, Technological and Vocational Training said on Thursday night.
It added that it looks forward to the completion of the works and will provide an update on reopening of the school in due course.
“We thank you for your continued patience and understanding as we work together to provide a better physical environment for teaching and learning,” the ministry’s brief statement concluded.
Following concerns raised three weeks ago by teachers and their representative, the Barbados Union of Teachers, about the school being plagued with mould, rats, cockroaches, wormwood, and inadequate bathroom facilities, the ministry announced tree-trimming and other emergency repairs beginning last week. They were to be completed in time for students to return to school this week.
However, the repairs were interrupted by Hurricane Beryl and a tropical wave and have not yet been completed. (BT)
