NAPSAC Announces Division of Championship into Track and Field Events Meets Due to Venue Unavailability
Explore the revised schedule of The National Primary Schools Athletic Championship (NAPSAC) with field events at secondary schools due to Usain Bolt Sports Complex unavailability. Track meet rescheduled for March.
The National Primary Schools’ Athletic Championship (NAPSAC) has been divided into a track meet and a separate field events meet.
In a press conference held yesterday at the Assad Haloute Complex of title sponsors Chefette/Frosteez,
NAPSAC chairperson Althea Belgrave announced the adjustments forced by the current unavailability of the Usain Bolt Sports Complex
at University of the West Indies, Cave Hill.
Initially slated to start on February 19, proceedings will now begin with the field events meet which is to be hosted at two secondary schools, Alexandra and Coleridge & Parry from February 27 to March 1 with two zones being contested each day.
Much later track
NAPSAC field events include the long jump, high jump, standing broad jump, shot put and the cricket ball throw.
The track meet is still scheduled to take place at the Usain Bolt Sports Complex but much later than first expected.
“Track is going to start March 25 to March 28 and the finals will be April 3. We [ NAPSAC] have adjusted based on the information that we have been given,” said Belgrave.
Addressing concerns about the northern travel for the field event meet, Belgrave revealed the NAPSAC committee approached Harrison College and Combermere for use of their facilities but were turned down.
