The National Sports Council U19 Basketball Competition kicks off with an exciting skills challenge and shooting competition. Co-Operators General Insurance sponsors the event, supporting young athletes. Thirteen schools compete in the tournament.
The National Sports Council U19 Basketball Competition held their opening ceremony on Tuesday evening at the Wildey Gymnasium. Long standing sponsors Co-Operators General Insurance are once again on board as they play a pivotal role in assisting young student athletes through the sport of basketball.
The tournament got underway with an exciting skills challenge along with a shooting competition, which saw representatives from the participating schools take the court to display their talents.
In the skills challenge, Queens College (QC) headed into the finals as the team to beat after recording the fastest time in the preliminary rounds, but Combermere saved their best for last as their trio of Seth Playter, Seraph Howard, and Namari Skeete clocked a time of 1:26 to cause the upset and bring trophy to Waterford.
The other two schools to advance to the finals were Harrison College and Alexandra.
Barbados Community College (BCC) and Deighton Griffith battled down to the last shot in the finals of the Shooting Competition. Each team had a minute to score as many points as possible from various spots on the court. BCC’s duo of Xavier Andre and Taj Greenidge recorded the most points in the preliminaries and the finals as their shooting ability stood above the rest on the evening.
