Please see full statement below:
“The administration of the Deighton Griffith Secondary School has been made aware of concerns and misunderstanding in the public domain following the circulation of a letter addressed and disseminated to parents and guardians of students attending the school. In this letter a “Gender Day” activity has been scheduled for Thursday, 27 June 2024.
The school’s administration takes this opportunity to clarify any misunderstanding that may have arisen. This activity is simply an extension of Gender Prayers where the boys assemble in one location and the girls in another. In these sessions the students are engaged in discussions about a range of topics such as conduct, deportment, entrepreneurship, hygiene, motivation, nutrition, violence, or any matter that may raise its head from time to time to threaten the smooth functioning of the school. The discussions take place within the two unique perspectives. Experience has taught that with this kind of arrangement such discussions can be more beneficial and effective especially at confidence building. This will be replicated in the planned upcoming activity. The sessions will be facilitated by both in-house members of staff and external resource persons.
The school’s administration trusts that gives clarity to the intended activity and apologies for any discomfort that may have been occasioned due to any misunderstanding.”
