Springer Memorial School to Temporarily Close after Recent Simulation Exercise

Springer Memorial School will be closed for two days following a simulation exercise that caused panic among students and teachers. The school will resume classes on Monday.

Chief Education Officer, Dr Ramona Archer-Bradshaw met with staff and some students at the school this morning and has determined that they need a break following last week’s simulation exercise.
Letters were sent to parents this evening informing them that school would resume on Monday. Teacher’s Professional Day is being marked on Friday.
Also, in attendance were Chairman of the board of Management, Maxine Moore; Principal, Cheryl Gill; Education Officer Cyrilene Willoughby; and Senior School Attendance Officer, Sharon Weekes-Cumberbatch.
After the meeting, Archer-Bradshaw met with ancillary and administrative staff, spent time walking around the school grounds, and interacted with the students.
Last Wednesday, the Health and Safety Committee at the Government Hill, St Michael school held a simulation exercise which involved armed men, and sent both students and teachers into a panic.
Some children received medical attention at the school and others sought private treatment. (Nation News)
