October 28, 2023
Join renowned American actor Taye Diggs for a book signing event at Cavi & Vino, Worthing, Christ Church, where he will autograph his latest children's book, "Why?". Sunday, 1 pm - 4 pm.
American actor and children’s author Taye Diggs will host a book signing event at Cavi & Vino, Worthing, Christ Church on Sunday, one day after being the celebrity emcee at Soca Afro Dazzle.
Diggs, who is best known for his roles in popular movies such as How Stella Got Her Groove Back and The Best Man and recently the TV series All American is also a world-renowned children’s author with five books to his credit.
His latest one highlighting racial injustice has created quite a buzz due to the subject matter; simply entitled Why?
The book portrays a series of questions from kids posed to adults. One is: Why are people crying near a makeshift memorial? “Our people are crying because we are in pain,” comes the answer. Another question asks why protestors are shouting. An adult explains: “Our people are shouting because we need to be heard.”
Diggs said in an earlier interview: “I needed to be honest… and sometimes being honest and real can be uncomfortable. And I think that that’s OK.”
Why? is Diggs and illustrator Shane W. Evans’ fifth children’s book together, a collaboration that started with 2011’s Chocolate Me, which spotlighted what it feels like to look different and get teased at school.
Their books have explored blackness, growing up biracial, friendship, and dealing with separated parents, with titles like Mixed Me! and My Friend!
The actor is excited to meet the Barbadian public and looks forward to the opportunity of sharing and autographing his books at Cavi & Vino from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. this Sunday.
The American celebrity is on island to host the Soca Afro Dazzle on Saturday night at the Kensington Oval. The show is being held in honour of Cultural Ambassador The Most Honourable Stedson RPB Wiltshire.
