Republic Bank CPL pledges $50,000 to aid Grenada students affected by Hurricane Beryl, offering support for education and professional development. Prime Minister and CPL CEO express gratitude and commitment to youth.
The Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL) has pledged a significant contribution of US$50,000 to aid tertiary-level students in Grenada who have had their final year of education severely disrupted by Hurricane Beryl, which struck in July 2024.
The hurricane’s devastating effects have profoundly impacted residents across northern Grenada, Carriacou, and Petite Martinique, leaving many students struggling to continue their studies. The CPL’s donation will provide vital assistance to students at the T.A. Marryshow Community College, covering essential needs such as accommodation, meals, transportation, and school supplies.
In addition to this financial support, CPL is committed to offering further opportunities for these students. In 2025, several of them will be invited to work as interns at the CPL, helping to enhance their professional development and career prospects.
Pete Russell, CEO of CPL, expressed his solidarity with the affected communities. “Everyone at CPL has been touched by the impact that Beryl has had across the region, and we are pleased that we are able to play our part by supporting these students as they complete their studies and look to a bright future ahead,” he said. “Supporting the youth of the Caribbean is hugely important to us, and we look forward to hearing of the progress of these students and welcoming them to the tournament next year.”
The Prime Minister of Grenada, the Honourable Dickon Mitchell, also voiced his gratitude for CPL’s generous initiative. “We are very grateful for the support that Republic Bank CPL is giving to our young people as they look to rebuild their lives following the massive impact of Hurricane Beryl on Grenada. This support means that they can recover from the immediate impact of this disaster and focus solely on continuing their studies.”
This year’s CPL final will be held on October 6 at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. (JC)
