Alma Mater Honors Road Tennis Champions Mark Griffith and Sheldene Walrond
The king and queen of road tennis in Barbados, Mark Griffith and Sheldene Walrond, were honored by their alma mater, Ellerslie School, recognizing their recent victory in the Barbados Road Tennis Open.
The king and queen of road tennis in this country were honoured by their alma mater yesterday morning.
Mark “Venom” Griffith and Sheldene Walrond, the emphatic winners of the recent Barbados Road Tennis Open, are both past students of Ellerslie School, a fact not lost on the management team of the Black Rock learning institution, who have been quick to acknowledge the two sporting stars.
Principal Andrea Baptiste presided over a ceremony in which both champions were honoured before dozens of adoring students, president of the Barbados Road Tennis Association Frederick Blunt and representatives of Harris Paints, sponsors of 50 school courts across the island.
“Road tennis has made a major impact on the sporting landscape and we are proud that its two biggest champions are from Ellerslie. Mark and Sheldene have made us proud. We are elated that they are part and parcel of us,” said a delighted Baptiste.
