Barbados Junior Tennis Star Zane Kirton Shines at 2025 Barbados International Tournament: Runner-up in U-14 Boys' Singles and Doubles Finals

Barbados' Zane Kirton impresses at 2025 Barbados International Junior Tennis Tournament, reaching Under-14 Boys' singles and doubles finals. Runner-up after competitive match against Mateo Gutierrez of El Salvador.
Barbados’ tennis prodigy Zane Kirton had a magnificent run at the 2025 Barbados International Junior Tennis Tournament after impressively earning his place in both the Under-14 Boys’ singles and doubles finals before finishing as runner-up.
During the highly competitive finals played yesterday at the Raymond Forde Tennis Centre in Wildey, Kirton faced his 13-year-old opponent, Mateo Gutierrez of El Salvador, and after fighting hard in the best-of-three sets exchange, the Barbadian eventually lost 6-4, 6-4 in a highly competitive match.
Contending with strong, windy conditions, Kirton, a student of Queen’s College school, still has one more year left to compete in this age group. He did very well to fight back in the first set after trailing 0-4 to tie the game 4-4.
The lone Barbadian male to reach the finals in the Confederation of Tennis of Central America and the Caribbean (COTECC)-sanctioned competition, Kirton put up an impressive and spirited effort, producing several top serves and lovely overhead shots that Gutierrez struggled to return. (ML)
