UWI Cave Hill Campus Guild Responds to Financial Mismanagement Allegations

The Guild of Students at UWI Cave Hill Campus refutes allegations of financial mismanagement, calling for evidence to support claims amid protests over fund transfer to OSSD.
The Guild of Students of the University of the West Indies (UWI) Cave Hill Campus is denying claims that it mismanaged student finances.
During a press conference at the campus earlier today, the Guild called on university management to justify its allegations.
Last Thursday, more than 20 students protested against the closure of the Guild’s financial account and the transfer of its funds to the Office of Student Services and Development (OSSD) for oversight.
In a subsequent statement, the university said that new financial controls had been introduced in 2022, following an internal audit that allegedly uncovered “financial irregularities.”
However, Guild President Tyson Holder explained that before these financial controls were implemented, the Guild Office Manager—appointed by the university registrar to the OSSD—was responsible for the finances.
He said financial records from that period indicated that the Guild’s finances were in good order and properly managed.
“A financial audit was conducted, and yet we have not received any concrete evidence of mismanagement on our part,” Holder said. (SZB)
