Mark Williams, a multifaceted individual known for his contributions to broadcasting, promotion, politics, and cultural preservation, sadly passed away at 83. His legacy included being a trailblazer in bringing Coney Island and wrestling to Barbados. He also hosted the well-liked Looking Back program on CBC radio and worked on poverty alleviation and advertising at the Nation Publishing Co. Furthermore, he served as a Member of Parliament for St Michael North West from 1999 to 2003 under the Barbados Labour Party.
Mark Williams has passed away at age 83.
Family members announced his death on social media, saying he was ‘called home’ on Wednesday morning.
Williams wore many hats in his time. He was a broadcaster, promoter, parliamentarian and ‘historian’.
He was the first person to bring Coney Island and wrestling to Barbados.
Williams hosted the popular Looking Back programme on CBC radio for many years and worked with poverty alleviation. He also worked in the Advertising Department at the Nation Publishing Co.
From 1999 to 2003, he was the MP for St Michael North West as a member of the Barbados Labour Party. (SAT)
