Barbadian Omatali Beckett wins Daytime Emmy Award for Live Sound Mixing and Sound Editing on The Kelly Clarkson Show. His journey from DJ to Emmy winner celebrated by proud mother.
Barbadian Omatali Beckett is the winner of a Daytime Emmy Award for Live Sound Mixing and Sound Editing as part of the crew for The Kelly Clarkson show on NBC.
The 50-year-old was on stage when the statuette was presented during last week’s award show, emerging victorious from a field of nominees that included the Jennifer Hudson Show, The Talk and the Tamron Hall Show.
“I’m thrilled to have been part of the winning team that earned my first Emmy Award. It’s an incredible feeling to know that our hard work and dedication have been recognised at the highest level. I’m grateful to have contributed to making The Kelly Clarkson Show and to have shared this experience with a talented and dedicated team. This Emmy Award is a testament to what can be achieved when passionate and driven individuals come together – it’s truly something magical to be a part of!” Omatali told the DAILY NATION.
His mother Annette Beckett, a former announcer at Starcom Network, said it was a culmination of acquiring indepth knowledge of sound engineering, working his way up the ranks from a DJ on Voice of Barbados and with various editing studios in Barbados.
The proud mother said he had no formal musical training. She laughed when she recalled the number of radios that were reduced to shells or boxes after her curious son dismantled them.
Omatali worked with several local, regional and international artistes, including Beres Hammond, and for the past five years or so, has been touring with Sean Paul.
