Hurricane Beryl intensifies to category 4, poses threat to Barbados with storm-force winds. Residents urged to monitor local authorities for safety instructions. Advisory update at 2 p.m.
Barbados is still currently experiencing some of the effects of Hurricane Beryl as feeder bands continue to sweep across the island, bringing storm-force winds ranging from 40 to 50 mph.
As of 11 a.m. today, Hurricane Beryl has intensified into a dangerous category 4 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 150 MPH (220 Km/h). The hurricane’s centre was located near 12.5N 61.7W, about 240 km southwest of Barbados, moving westward at 20 MPH (31 km/h) with a central pressure of 950mb.
A Hurricane Warning remains in effect for Barbados.
Residents are advised to closely monitor updates from the Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS), Department of Emergency Management (DEM), Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and local media outlets for the latest information and safety instructions.
