Increase in Patient Visits at Queen Elizabeth Hospital's A&E Department Prompts Enhanced Services and Support Options
November 11, 2024
The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Barbados notes a rise in A&E visits, advises non-emergency cases to use PALS/Help Desk for guidance. Triage system ensures urgent cases are prioritized.
The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) in Barbados has reported a significant increase in patient visits to its Accident and Emergency Department (AED).
The AED is currently experiencing a substantial rise in the number of patients seeking treatment for various complaints. To alleviate pressure on the department and minimize extended waiting times, especially for non-emergency cases, the hospital encourages individuals to use the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS/Help Desk).
This service is available for initial assessments and treatment guidance through regular or WhatsApp calls at 536-4800, operating from 9 a.m. to midnight.
Additionally, patients can seek medical care at the 24-hour Winston Scott Polyclinic in Jemmotts Lane, St. Michael, or consult their private physicians.
QEH reassured the public that under its Triage System, life-threatening conditions will continue to receive immediate attention and treatment. However, those presenting with less critical issues may face longer waiting times due to the current patient surge.
Updates will be provided as the AED team manages the increased patient load.
The hospital has apologized for any inconvenience this may cause. (PR)
