August 5, 2024
Expect showers and extreme heat on Kadooment Day in Barbados. Meteorologist advises staying hydrated as occasional rain and high humidity are forecasted. Flash flood watch issued, but conditions to improve later.
Masqueraders and spectators can expect some showers on Kadooment Day.
However, it is also likely that they could feel some extreme heat.
That’s why everyone taking in or participating in the festivities is being encouraged to prepare.
Meteorologist with the Barbados Meteorological Services, Danielle Nurse shared that information yesterday ahead of today’s Grand Kadooment parade and the climax of the
“Tomorrow (today) there will be some occasional shower activity. Based on what we are seeing in the forecast the rain will fall off-and-on. There will be some heat and humidity, so persons should stay hydrated,” Nurse added.
Yesterday, the country was impacted by rainfall which led by the Met Office placing the island under a flash flood watch.
A flash-flood watch is issued when heavy or excessive rainfall in a short period of time (generally less than 6 hours) could result in flash flooding within the watch area.
But improvement is expected towards this afternoon.
“It should be better than the conditions than we had today [yesterday],” Nurse said.
According to the Met Office, today will be partly sunny and humid conditions will result in heat stress for revellers and patrons. Occasional shower activity (scattered light to moderate showers and a chance of isolated thunderstorms) should result in some relief from the heat.
The temperature should be around 32degrees Celsius, but will feel like 40 degrees.
However, there will be a fresh easterly breeze from 35 to 45 km/h (22 to 28 mph) with higher gusts. (Nation News)
