Barbadians Urged to Exercise Caution Amid Respiratory Illness Concerns | QEH Director Highlights Increased Cases

Partygoers at Crop Over festivities are advised to be cautious due to prevalent respiratory illnesses. The Queen Elizabeth Hospital has noted a rise in severe respiratory conditions since June.
While partygoers have been encouraged to enjoy the Crop Over festivities, they are also being urged to be cautious and responsible as respiratory illnesses continue to be prevalent.
That was the message to Barbadians yesterday from director of clinical and diagnostic services at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH), The Most Honourable Dr Corey Forde.
He said the QEH had a rigorous surveillance mechanism which had been able to identify the increase in respiratory illnesses since last month.
“Since the end of June, we’ve seen a heavy influx of persons coming into the emergency department with severe respiratory conditions. What that means is that we need to continue to do our surveillance and understand that what happens in the community will find its way to the hospital,” Forde said.
