The Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) has expanded its Flash Flood Warning to include the central part of the island, effective immediately until 6:00 PM today, Saturday, April 20th, 2024.
Heavy rains that caused flooding in northern districts earlier today have now shifted south. Rainfall accumulations of 40 to 75 millimeters are expected, raising concerns for:
Runoff from hills
Soil erosion on exposed land
Water pooling on roads and fields
Rising water levels in ponds and other bodies of water
Debris carried by fast-moving floodwaters
Flooding near hillsides and coastal roads
Traffic delays and potential road closures
Residents in both northern and central districts are urged to take precautions:
