Island Under Flash-Flood Watch as Heavy Rainfall and Thunderstorms Persist: Updates and Precautions
November 17, 2024
Flash-flood watch extended for the island due to heavy rainfall and thunderstorm activity. Significant rainfall reported in Christ Church and St. Philip, with further accumulations expected. Watch updated at 6 p.m.
A flash-flood watch remains in effect for the island.
The watch has been extended due to low-level convergence aided by a favourable upper-level pattern that is currently generating pockets of heavy to intense showers, periods of rain and thunderstorm activity across the island
Since early this morning, parts of Christ Church and St. Philip have reported significant rainfall, accumulating between 1 and 2 inches. With continued rainfall expected, further accumulations of 1 to 2 inches, and potentially higher isolated amounts, are anticipated this afternoon and tonight.
A Flash-flood watch is issued when heavy or excessive rainfall in a short period of time (generally less than 6 hours) could result in flash flooding within the watch area. It does not mean that flooding will occur, but it is possible.
The watch will be updated or terminated at 6 p.m. or sooner if conditions warrant.
