The 2021 Barbados Census faced challenges due to COVID-19 and issues like faulty equipment and worker attrition. Director Aubrey Browne extended enumeration to address obstacles.
The 2021 Barbados Population and Housing Census was beset with problems, mostly associated with challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, but exacerbated by issues ranging from faulty electronic equipment to a high attrition of workers who were not properly paid.
That information comes from the final report of the recently released Census, by the Director of the Barbados Statistical Service (BSS), Aubrey Browne.
Browne said extending the duration of enumeration, originally scheduled for under three months, was a solution employed to overcome the challenges of enumerating the whole island.
