Join the Barbados Fire Service in celebrating Fire Service Week from Sep 24-Oct 2. Activities include lectures, quizzes, cricket match, and fire safety programs.
The Barbados Fire Service (BFS) has a number of activities planned to celebrate Fire Service Week, which runs from Sunday, September 24, to Monday, October 2.
Under the theme Celebrating our past with visions to the future, the week began with a thanksgiving service on Sunday, September 24, at the Bethel Methodist Church, Bay Street, St Michael, at 9 am.
This will be followed by the installation of smoke alarms for vulnerable individuals in the St Michael South East constituency.
On Tuesday, September 26, there will be a lunchtime lecture by historian Maurice Greenidge at the Golden Square Freedom Park, The City, at noon.
On Wednesday, September 27, the BFS will hold an inter-departmental quiz competition on the Third Floor, General Post Office Building, Cheapside, St. Michael, from 4 pm.
The following day, fire officers will go on a moonlight hike along the coastline of St. John. It will commence at Bath at 6 pm., with hikers journeying through several coastal areas before returning to their original start point.
Officers from the BFS will go up against those from the Barbados Defence Force on Friday, September 29, during a T20 Cricket Match at Paragon, Christ Church.
The week of activities will climax on Monday, October 2, with a Fire Safety Standardisation Programme, in collaboration with Guardian Life of the Caribbean Limited, for government nurseries across the island. This will involve the installation of smoke alarms, replacing alarm batteries, and posting of fire safety signage.
Members of the public will also have an opportunity to get a closer look at the operations inside fire stations during their Open Days. On Monday, September 25, the Bridgetown Fire Station will host its Open Day; the Airport Fire Station on Tuesday, September 26; the St. John Fire Station on Wednesday, September 27; the Worthing Fire Station on Thursday, September 28; and the Arch Hall Fire Station, on Friday, September 29.
