2024 National Senior Games: Track and Field Highlights Featuring Age-Defying Athletes
May 21, 2024
Exciting track and field action at the 2024 National Senior Games with standout performances by both young talents and seasoned veterans, proving age is just a number. Gold medals for 86-year-old competitors.
It was a Sunday evening of track and field nostalgia and entertainment at the Usain Bolt Sports Complex on the second day of the athletics component of the 2024 National Senior Games.
Former national sprint queen Amber Cumberbatch and the newly crowned king of the men’s high jump, Andrew Thornhill, were among several standout performances from the younger brigade.
But it was the perennial competitors like Victor Young and Kathy-Harper-Hall, both 86 years old, who have been competing from the inception of the games in 2002, showing once again that age was just a number.
Harper-Hall, who is recovering from a broken leg, won three gold medals in the discus, broad jump and cricket ball throw in the 86-89 age group, while Young, the lone male competitor in that age category, triumphed in the 400 and 1 500 metres. (ML)
