Renowned windsurfer Brian Talma advocates for a professional beach cricket league in Barbados, coinciding with the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The initiative aims to celebrate the island's cricket culture and engage the community in beach sports.
Renowned windsurfer Brian Talma wants to see a professional beach cricket league in Barbados.
And he has suggested that now is the time to develop it, particularly now that the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is in town.
With Barbados renowned for cricket legends like Sir Garfield Sobers, Joel Garner, Wes Hall, Desmond Haynes, Gordon Greenidge and countless others, Talma suggested that a beach cricket league was not a stretch.
His comments came ahead of him hosting a Beach Culture Day at his De Action Spot in Silver Sands, Christ Church on Saturday.
“Since it’s World Cup we are just reenergising it, because I believe strongly that beach cricket should be a dominant part of our culture. I think it is something we should launch through World Cup cricket,” Talma told Barbados TODAY, noting that he previously had a similar beach competition that included prizes for those who scored the most runs and bagged the most wickets.
Media practitioners and other local sportsmen will face off in the beach cricket match at the Beach Culture Day event. The day will also feature the Beach Culture Awards for media competitors.
Locals and visitors who attend will also be able to windsurf, kite surf and participate in other water activities from 10 a.m. (BT)
