A flash-flood warning is in effect for Barbados until about 6 this evening.
The Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) says the warning will be discontinued sooner if conditions warrant.
A flash flood warning is issued when rapid flooding due to heavy or excessive rainfall in a short period of time (generally less than six hours) is occurring or is imminent in the warning area.
In a release issued this afternoon, the BMS notes: Unstable conditions are affecting the island and are likely to generate accumulations of two to four inches (50 to 100mm) with isolated higher amounts in scattered moderate to heavy showers mainly over northern, northwestern and central districts.
