Firefighters now have access to drones that are expected to help them assess situations more efficiently.
Minister of Home Affairs Wilfred Abrahams, in making the announcement yesterday, said the technology can also help save lives as well as with data collection.
“Just recently the Barbados Fire Service received four drones to aid in the collection of data to produce statistics on the acreage of grass and cane fires. These drones will also offer an aerial view of incident scenes and assist incident commanders in making more precise decisions concerning their tactics. This will most certainly help them to save lives,” he said.
Abrahams was addressing the passing out parade for Batch 41 of the Barbados Fire Service at the Fire Academy in Arch Hall, St Thomas.
He said that with the drones, fire officers would be able to determine the best strategies to implement even before they arrive at the scene. (TG)
