St Michael Man Sentenced to Jail for Theft of Umbrellas from City Store
October 12, 2023
A St Michael man, Timothy Paul Sobers, has been sentenced to one month in jail for the theft of two umbrellas from Cool Saving Fashion Inc. despite maintaining his innocence.
The theft of two umbrellas from a city store has landed a St Michael man in jail for one month.
Even though he pleaded guilty to stealing the items, valued at $50, belonging to Cool Saving Fashion Inc. on October 10, 2023, Timothy Paul Sobers of Second Avenue Sealy Land, Bank Hall maintained he did not place them in his bag.
“I was trying to find out de price of the umbrellas. I had both umbrellas in my hand next to my bag. They were next to it, not in it. The security cameras will show that the clerk took de umbrellas from my hand, not de bag,” he said.
However, Magistrate Bernadeth John told the 44-year-old unemployed man, who is known to the court, that she did not believe him.
“You already pleaded guilty…. Stop playing the fool with the court. Stop telling me stories, because it is an insult to my intelligence. I believe you are in the habit of doing this and getting away with it, and this time you got caught,” the judge contended before sentencing the thief to one month at Dodds prison.
“Go up there and make up a plan for your life so you can stop with this behaviour.”
