Spectacular Halo Phenomenon Enchants Barbadians: A Natural Optical Delight Explained by Meteorological Service
April 17, 2024
Barbados witnesses stunning natural phenomena as a halo forms around the sun. This optical spectacle is caused by sunlight refracting off ice crystals in cirrus clouds, creating a vibrant ring or rainbow effect.
Barbadians today were treated to a rare spectacle in the form of a halo around the sun.
This halo looked like a colored ring or rainbow around the sun.
A halo is a ring or light that forms around the sun or moon as the sun or moon refracts off ice crystals present in a thin layer of cirrus clouds. The halo is usually seen
as a bright, white ring although sometimes it can have colors like the one visible today. The Barbados Meteorological Service said the halo is an optical phenomenon in the atmosphere and there is no cause for alarm.
