Sam Wilkinson, Pioneering Sports Editor and Broadcasting Icon, Passes Away at 82

Sam Wilkinson, the Nation's first sports editor, passed away at 82. Known as "7-Up Sam," he had a distinguished journalism career and hosted sports commentary programs on radio. Survived by wife Judy and children Samantha and Barry.
The journalism fraternity was plunged into mourning today following the death of Sam Wilkinson.
Wilkinson, who served as the first the Nation’s first sports editor, passed away at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital after a brief illness. He was 82.
Affectionately known as “7-Up Sam”, Wilkinson worked at the Daily News in the early part of his career and also hosted a sports commentary morning radio programme on Voice of Barbados and the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Judy and their two children, Samantha and Barry. (HG)
