Oman’s T20 World Cup squad will be visiting the Barbados Royals Girls Cricket Club’s training session next Saturday at Friendship Playing Field, St Michael.
The training session, which begins at 10:30 a.m., makes up part of the Asian side’s pre- tournament camp in Barbados which runs from May 14 to 24. During that time they will take part in three T20 matches – two against a Barbados Select XI and one match against The University of the West Indies (UWI). The matches against Barbados are scheduled for May 20 and 22 while the clash against UWI will take place on May 23. Preview in new tab
The camp is being organised by Roland Butcher, former England batsman and West Indies Senior Men’s Selector.
“It is great that the Oman team will be coming to Barbados early for their pre-tournament camp,” Butcher began. “They will use the period to get acclimated to the conditions as quickly as possible. We are delighted to have them in Barbados and we believe the time spent here will be hugely beneficial towards them putting on a good showing in this year’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
Oman’s Head Coach Duleep Mendis said his troops were delighted with the choice of Barbados as the destination of their training camp.
“We are happy to be heading to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup early and we are looking forward to our camp in Barbados. It is one of the cricket locations which we all dream of visiting and we want to make the most of our time as we prepare. We have high ambitions in this tournament and we want to focus on our plans from the moment we touch down in a country which is known for its cricket culture and heroes.”
Oman will make their third appearance in an ICC competition when they get underway in Group B when they begin their T20 World Cup campaign on June 2 against Namibia at Kensington Oval in Barbados. Alongside them in that group is Australia, defending champions England, Namibia and Scotland.
