Former Mr Barbados bodybuilding champion Shaquille Lavine expresses concern over the declining state of the sport in Barbados, highlighting the need for revitalization and increased support from the local federation.
Former Mr Barbados bodybuilding champion Shaquille Lavine says the sport is crying out for help and badly in need of a revival.
Lavine, 28, who has captured every major muscle contest in the country including Mr Barbados, Darcy Beckles Invitational Classic and Mr Bridgetown, told Weekend Sport he was frustrated that “bodybuilding was going nowhere”.
This year’s National Championships will be held tomorrow night at the Wildey Gymnasium and, according to Lavine, the field will be small and lacking quality.
“Bodybuilding is at a real low. Right now, there are very few competitions and not many incentives. The local federation has to do more. Bodybuilding in Barbados has gone backwards. The sport really needs help.
