Barbadian coach Rohan Clarke appointed as Head of Cricket at South Northumberland Cricket Club for the 2025 season. Clarke to lead coaching team and oversee training programs for men's, women's teams, and school outreach.
Barbadian coach Rohan Clarke has joined South Northumberland Cricket Club (SNCC) as their full-time Head of Cricket ahead of their upcoming 2025 season.
Clarke will oversee the management of all of the Tyneside club’s cricket activity and coaching which includes managing the coaching team and handling all training requirements. He will lead two other coaches, Brendon Louw and Alasdair Appleby who are responsible for the women’s team and school outreach programmes, respectively.
Speaking in an interview with Midweek Nation, Clarke said “Coming into this role at such a prestigious amateur club and knowing their aspirations of wanting to develop and produce the best players in the region is by no means a small task but one that’s clearly supported and boosted by the clubs’ bold move to employ a full-time coaching staff which I have the privilege to lead.”
The ECB Advanced level coach added “Coming from a country rich in cricketing talent and pedigree, it shows that we’re seen to have the necessary attributes and can add value to cricket programmes in other parts of the world.”
With the competition beginning on April 19, the Chairman of the club Phil Ewart explained the reasoning for revamping the staff in the club’s most recent news bulletin.
“A great amount of what is involved in running a club of our size is completely unseen, but one element you will certainly become aware of is the recruitment of three new, experienced, full-time coaches,” he remarked. “This will enable us to deliver our ambitious programmes with the aim of assisting every player to be the best they can be while enjoying playing the game we all love. We have now welcomed Rohan, Brendon and Alasdair to South North putting us in great shape for the season ahead.”
Clarke, who was raised in Church Village St Philip, is no stranger to England having served as a consultant bowling coach for Worcestershire CCC and Gloucestershire CCC last summer. Clarke also worked with Cricket West Indies as an assistant bowling coach including at last year’s ICC Men’s Under-19 World Cup in South Africa. The Windies went out at the Super Six stage, having won three matches. He also coached local side Yorkshire Cricket Club to a First Division title in 2022.
