August 28, 2024
Parish Land impresses with a 5-0 victory over St Andrew Lions in the Prime Minister’s Cup tournament, showcasing strong performance and goal-scoring prowess. Exciting match details and standout players highlighted.
Parish Land made a big splash in their first preliminary match of the Prime Minister’s Cup tournament, defeating St Andrew Lions 5-0 on a wet Friendship outfield in Hothersal Turning, St Michael.
Based in Christ Church, Parish Land might be a Division Two team, but they showed when $100 000 is on offer, they can play, even against a Division One side like the St Andrew Lions, whom they left completely stunned.
Getting the job done on Monday night for Parish Land were Devene Gale-Forde and Demar Linton with braces.
Gale-Forde put himself on the scoresheet in the 40th and 47th minutes, followed by Kevon Dottin in the 52nd and Linton joined in on the fun during the 55th and 61st minutes.
St Andrew goalkeeper Sharad McAllister had a horrible night in front of goal and defenders Gregory Hinds and Shakir Skeete also had a tough time marking a fast-paced Parish Land side.
Guilty of giving up five goals, St Andrew Lions had a good start and had much of the possession in the earlier stages of the match. Striker Shamar Edwards and midfielder Zeco Greaves did their best on the left field in search of a goal, producing a couple crosses but there were no takers inside the box.
Parish Land on the other end found an opening and scored when former Premier League player Gale-Forde connected with a header off a cross played in from the right, to score his first.
Parish Land generated a series of goal scoring opportunities and might have had a few more goals had they not rush the plays.
In the second half, Parish Land continued their dominance with Gale-Forde and Linton proving troublesome for St Andrew defenders, unable to effectively communicate at the back.
Trailing 5-0, it was difficult for the Lions to claw back from the jaws of defeat, even though a couple of substitutions were made, it did not make a difference.
Braving the rain, it was a long night of football and entertainment for football fans who are in for exciting times with a total of 52 matches expected to be played in the coming weeks.
During the first game of the Prime Minister’s Cup, which was interrupted for a couple minutes because of a power outage, Deacons Soccer Club dominated Clayton’s Kola Tonic Notre Dame 2-0.
There were goals from Nicoli Dziazhko, positioned in the correct spot of the 18-yard box for a one-time finish in the 10th minute. Deacons Captain Keon Atkins was fouled in extra time (90+4) and Tevin Barker-Savoury cemented the win.
