Daren Sammy to lead West Indies senior men’s teams in all formats starting 2025. Announcement made by Cricket West Indies director during press conference in St Vincent. Expansion of role after current World Test Championship campaign.
West Indies white-ball coach Daren Sammy is set to take charge of the senior men’s teams across all formats from 2025.
The announcement was made by Miles Bascombe, director of cricket at Cricket West Indies (CWI), during the organisation’s quarterly press conference yesterday morning in St Vincent.
Sammy’s current contract, which commenced in May 2023, is due to expire at the end of December. However, Bascombe confirmed that the decision to expand Sammy’s responsibilities will take effect from next year’s home Test series against Australia.
“Post our current World Test Championship (WTC) campaign (which concludes against Pakistan in January 2025) we are going to extend Mr Sammy’s role to encompass all formats,” Bascombe said. “I want to take this opportunity to thank Andre Coley, who has served us well. He still has to complete his WTC campaign in Pakistan and he will have our full support but again I want to congratulate Sammy.”
