Barbados' Yele Renwick-Williams Claims Gold in 11-12 Age Group at Barbados 2024 CARIFTA Triathlon Championship

Barbados’ Yele Renwick-Williams claimed gold in the 11-12 200m Swim/5km Bike/1.5k Run at the Barbados 2024 CARIFTA Triathlon Championship.

Over 190 athletes descended on the Mighty Grynner Highway from as early as 5:30 a.m. and Renwick-Williams, who was part of the second group to exit the swim, showcased his strength on the bike, closing the gap on the leaders. However, a crash on the second lap of the bike course caused a break in the pack, allowing Renwick-Williams to take charge.

The run proved to be the deciding factor, as Renwick-Williams outpaced his competitors to secure a comfortable victory. Liam Beckles from Barbados and Aiden Nixon from Trinidad and Tobago rounded out the podium.

In the 16-19 age group category, Fynn Armstrong secured gold in the male 750m Swim/20km Bike/5k Run event, while Isis Gaskin claimed the top spot in the female race.

The 13-15 age group saw Sanchez Smith from Bermuda take gold in the male race, while Louna Cariou from Martinique emerged victorious in the female event.

Bermuda finished atop the overall team standings after the first day of competition with a total of 91 points, followed by Barbados with 84 points. Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada, and Jamaica rounded out the top five.

Tomorrow Sunday will see the aquathlon and the mixed relays. (CG)
