Barbados Road Tennis Open Recaps Monotonous Matches at Silver Hill: Highlights and Results
August 20, 2024
The Barbados Road Tennis Open at Silver Hill featured one-sided matches with notable victories, including Kim Holder's dominant win over Ranesha Stewart and Angela Burrowes' dismissal of Megan Grosvenor.
The Barbados Road Tennis Open continued at Silver Hill on Sunday night with a rather monotonous fixture where none of the clashes provided the sparks or excitement of previous venues.
The tone was set from early when Queen’s College student Abilla Clarke was a no-show, allowing Cherene Ward to stroll into the round of 16. Abilla’s dad Abbie “Playboy” Clarke turned up for his battle with Marson Johnson but, despite some flickers, the game proved one-sided with Johnson winning 21-15, 21-15.
The three women’s matches which were played proved one-sided. The 2022 champion Kim Holder crushed her student, young Ranesha Stewart, 21-8, 21-7. Long-distance athlete Stewart played a substandard game and failed to avoid the double sow although it was obvious that her coach Holder was trying to gift her points.
Angela Burrowes was just as lethal in dismissing Megan Grosvenor out of the Historic Garrison camp 21-4, 21-8. There was no better luck for Astra Small, also of Garrison, as she was booted out by former Barbados footballer Asabi Downey 13-21, 12-21. (KB)
