Harrison College Dominates Combermere School in Under-19 Basketball Match

Harrison College (HC) defended its home turf in a dominating 69-31 win over Combermere School, as the National Sports Council’s Under-19 basketball tournament continued on Tuesday.

It was a clash between two of the island’s premier secondary institutions at Crumpton Street, but from the jump ball it was evident that HC was on a different level, and they made the country’s oldest secondary school look like they were shooting hoops in a different dimension.

Harrison College asserted their dominance from the get-go, bullying their way to a commanding 22-9 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The halftime break saw them comfortably ahead at 32-16, leaving Combermere scratching their heads, wondering if they had inadvertently stumbled into a basketball masterclass.

As Combermere struggled to decode the defensive fortress of Harrison College, the home team continued to dance through the court, extending their lead to 48-26 by the end of the penultimate period.

It was a symphony of skill and strategy, orchestrated by Aaron Weatherhead, who not only led all scorers with 14 points but also served as the gravitational centre for most of Harrison College’s plays.

Weatherhead, along with Zane Cox and Tristan Catlyn, proved to be an insurmountable trio for the valiant but overwhelmed Combermere unit.

The final quarter was a basketball clinic, with Harrison College outscoring their opponents 21-5, leaving no doubt about their supremacy with the victory helping them to secure the top spot in the tournament group.

Amauri Alleyne of Combermere fought hard to stem the tide, but the confidence exuded by Harrison College was too much for even the most determined resistance. (RT)
