December 7, 2023
Read about an intense football match between Harrison College and Ellerslie, where Harrison College's own goal secured Ellerslie's 3-2 victory in the Dasani/Powerade Barbados Secondary School Football League.
In a dramatic conclusion, Harrison College’s (HC) Keon Lashley scored a heartbreaking own goal to give Ellerslie a 3-2 win when the Dasani/Powerade Barbados Secondary School Football League continued on Wednesday.
Playing at Crumpton Street, an uneventful first half took a dramatic turn when Harrison College’s goalkeeper received a straight red card for handling the ball outside the 18-yard area just before the interval.
This incident occurred while attempting to prevent a clear goal by an Ellerslie player who had broken away, resulting in a one-on-one situation.
It didn’t take long for Ellerslie to make use of their numerical advantage after the half, as Joshua Payne’s goal in the 48th minute handed them a 1-0 lead.
However, HC’s Ethan Goodridge made it 1-1 when he converted a penalty 10 minutes later.
Harrison College then seized the lead when Tremaine Shepherd scored in the 60th minute, giving the home team a 2-1 advantage.
That lead, however, was short-lived, as Tafari Husbands levelled the score 2-2 for Ellerslie in the 68th minute.
The two teams engaged in a back-and-forth struggle, creating opportunities on both ends.
But In a twist of fate in the 75th minute, Lashley’s attempt to clear a ball resulted in a mistimed clearance, deviating past the makeshift goalkeeper for Harrison College, and into the back of the net to put Ellerslie ahead 3-2.
Despite several close attempts, Ellerslie was unable to widen the gap further as the match concluded in wild celebrations for the Block Rock-based school. (RT)
