Kensington Oval's pitch surprises players during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup match. Namibia wins over Oman in a low-scoring game decided by a super over. David Wiese comments on challenging batting conditions.
The pitch served up at Kensington Oval for its first match of the International Cricket Council Men’s T20 World Cup was not one that Man-of-the-Match David Wiese expected.
After Namibia prevailed over Oman in a low-scoring thriller that was decided by a super over, Wiese described the surface for the first Group B match on Sunday night as one that was not the easiest pitch to bat on.
The match initially ended in a tie after both teams could only manage 109 on a track in which batsmen found the going tough.
“You remember the days of Kensington having a little bit of balance and pace. When we got here today, it looked like a good pitch, it looked like a good wicket. We thought it was going to just play true the whole time but it got a little bit slower and it got a little bit lower also. It wasn’t the easiest wicket to start on,” Wiese said. (HG)
