Barbadians and their caribbean neighbours are being advised to prepare for a “hyperactive” Atlantic hurricane season than forecasters initially predicted.
In the wake of the death and destruction caused by Hurricane Beryl, the Department of Atmospheric Science at Colorado State University (CSU) in the United States says the Category five hurricane is “a likely harbinger of a hyperactive season”.
Last month, the CSU team forecast they would be 23 named storms, including 11 hurricanes and five major hurricanes this season. After Hurricane Beryl, they now say that there will be 25 named storms, 12 of them hurricanes including six major ones. (SC)
